Craft an effective 10 page personal business guidebook for a happy business on your own terms. Put away the boring business plan and dive into a personalized way to crystallize an idea and discover detailed next steps to make it happen on your own terms.
Myth 1:
A product/service is your brand
Reality:
You are your brand. Most of the time entrepreneurs focus on a plan for the product or service they offer instead of a plan for your brand. Since you are your brand, use the guidebook strategically as a detailed framework for your journey.
Myth 2:
A business is an activity you begin/launch or end
Reality:
A business is a journey that morphs into different things as you grow and change as a person
We will examine the power of words, empowering questions and how they inform our road-map to success, with time dedicated to feedback and critique. We will look at case studies from independent creatives tackling issues like self-doubt, funding and accountability that often play out in entrepreneurial journeys. Take one part vision boarding, one part planning and 3 parts fun. Collaboration will be encouraged.
This is a beginning level workshop combining live sessions, videos and one-on-one engagement labs and is geared towards students who are ready to think in new perspectives to structure their ideas!
At the end of the class you will:
-Crystalize your idea
-Establish detailed steps in each part of your business plan, from marketing to funding
-Create a pitch for clients, a website or social media presentation
-Increase confidence and decrease self doubt
-Make business decisions with fluidity
Starts June 8th for 5 weeks, in collaboration with City College of San Francisco Extension Program
Who is this for? Those who have an idea but haven't started their businesses or those who've started but are blocked in some way.

The Infamous Question of "the Side Job"
In French they say "boulot alimentaire" which literally means food money!
Over the last few months, I've been speaking with artists and designers about their "Start". In my latest articles the conversation with a sustainable designer, Florence Franks here in Paris, that taken on a whole new realm exploring every part of the ups and downs of launching her design business. I divided our conversation into five parts. In the last chat, here is what Florence said about her side job:
"In the beginning, I thought I could manage the two - the brand and my job. But actually I couldn’t. I am organized in general, but for my brand I’m not organized and tend to get distracted easily. Sometimes I'm happy I have both - I love the kids! (She works with youth workers and works mostly in the afternoons and evenings.) Being an entrepreneur is tiring so the job gives me a break to be free. Also I save money for the brand to continue."
Oh, the never-ending quandary of taking “the side job”. "How can I make the time for the other job? Of course it will bring money but how will I organize myself and will I advance my project at the same speed, if I take this job?" I had to write a separate article on this because it’s such a purveying question and comes up all the time.
Should I take a job while I get my brand underway?
Depends. Don’t you love that word….the most frustrating words in English. The short answer is, if the job can fulfill the following criteria (inexhaustive), then go for it. If it can’t, let's talk about the things to ponder when making your decision.”

Paris Life Reopens
The first thing that was weird was the "no kissing" rule. Sure, with covid, people were hesitant to touch or hug and definitely not give "les bises." I was ok with that. Then it was "don't eat together." We were limited to 6 people at the same table . That wasn't so bad because four people at a table is a party...right? Then the rules subjected us to not travel 10km from our homes. Basically 10km is like maybe 3 arrondissements over or for my fellow Americans it's like 6 miles or an hour run or driving to five plazas away from your home.
I was all about solidarity! Vive la France! We have to do our part! Tous ensemble! Then, May sluggishly came around and I was DONE! I was tired of take out! I was tired of my apartment view! I was tired of working! So you can imagine that when president Macron lifted the restrictions to begin May 19th, we were heureux! Parisiennes dreamt of servers pissing us off and of drooling on a Spritz or la biere and grabbing a seat on the terrasse to watch the people go by. Finally that day came...
Talk about crowds. Stores were open showing off the work of chocolate artisans and even the cat was "out!"
So what does this mean for in person events, class, clubs, museums, large and small?
