This web site will change soon, I am in the midst of lets say, evolving it. In the meantime I wanted to tell you just a little about myself. Though I have a background in big corporate consumer products, fashion styling and design at small fashion houses, I'm a totally nerd when it comes to cyberpunk, underground documentaries and strange enough, physics. I love thinking about the future and entertaining out of the box solutions to sustainability fashion and society problems.
“What if” scenarios are fun but unfortunately, have become more like real life scenarios these days. So, I keep trying to push the boundaries of what I think about and how I ask myself certain questions about the future. I think that if we remain in the box of fashion we will recycle the same ideas and continue to put bandaids on solutions instead offering ways to push the industry forward. Art and philosophy are a great basis to do that. That is how I happened on your work. I could go on and on but let’s get down to it…
Here is the 'scenario' I'll like you to put yourself in and possibly give me your response. If its too much to write, you can also record it as a audiofile, as I know you are a busy person:)
You have already been in confinement for 2 months and the French government says it will last another 8 more months. Everyone is asked to wear a mask when going outside or risk a fine and possible prison time for endangering other’s lives. (As far it doesn't seem too strange right?). The space restriction is now a 2 block radius. You can get to a grocery store, boulangerie and exercise within that radius. In my neighbourhood waste and clothing recycling are no longer being picked up or they are full so let’s assume it will be the case for this situation as well.
Money is not so much an issue and time is only relevant for however you choose to response to the questions below. For the sake of this ‘scenario’ , you will have plenty of pasta, soap and toilet paper:). Your basics needs are met. The only thing you possibly have to worry about is the supply chain but that rests on your periphery for the moment.
What other needs are essential for you in your personal life? For example, would Nutella, a clean moisturiser or even a new lipstick color be on your list? Maybe a doggy or something totally unexpected. More than likely online clothing and fabric stores will be out of stock on most things and delivery people will be few and far between.
From your place of artistry, design and ethos, what would you propose people to wear (in your 2 block radius)? Or not wear? How would you (or your collaborators) get it to them and what would it be made from? These can be things not invented yet, non-mainstream, strange, tech, anything you want. Dreaming is good in these ’scenarios.’ I don't know if there are designers or alteration shops, etc in your radius. They could fantastically appear. You are a person in a position of decision making power and money though not rich poses not to be a problem.. How would you help your 2 block community get 'clothes'? Who would be involved? What is your reasoning for these ideas? For example, were you influenced by art, movies, evolution of humanity….?
Feel free to think with an open heart and an open mind. There is no timeline on your feedback though 2 weeks could good. I am still doing research on this piece soon to be posted on medium.com, colleagues at universities and on social.
Can't wait to chat,
Tyese
